CarbonCapture Inc. Subsidiary True North Carbon to Launch Tamarack, Canada’s Largest Single-Technology Direct Air Capture Deployment, Supporting Alberta’s Leadership in Carbon Management

Innisfail, AB – September 25, 2025 – True North Carbon, the Canadian subsidiary of U.S. direct air capture (DAC) and material science leader CarbonCapture Inc., today announced the upcoming launch of Project Tamarack, the largest deployment of a single DAC technology in Canadian history. Located at Deep Sky Alpha in Alberta, the system will have the capacity to remove up to 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere per year at full operation, marking a pivotal transition from pilot projects to bankable, scalable carbon removal infrastructure.

The project signifies a turning point for direct investment in Canada’s next generation decarbonization ecosystem, with a U.S. DAC company choosing to deploy its innovative modular technology in Alberta. This move underscores the province’s position as a premier global destination for carbon management, thanks to its world-class storage geology, mature Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) ecosystem, supportive policy framework, and experienced energy workforce.

“Tamarack marks a step-change for Alberta and carbon management in Canada. Moving our DAC modules to Alberta was enabled by the supportive policy and business environment up north, and we're happy to be here,” said Adrian Corless, CEO of Carbon Capture, Inc. and True North Carbon. “With this project, the province is now home to the largest single-technology commercial DAC system in the nation, and creates a scalable, accelerated path to meaningful climate impact, manufacturing, and support for legacy industries.”

“Invest Alberta is thrilled to see CarbonCapture, Inc. and True North Carbon’s Tamarack project coming to fruition. Having this project in Alberta is a vote of confidence from Carbon Capture in our investor-friendly, innovative business climate that supports carbon-neutral industry,” said Rick Christiaanse, CEO of Invest Alberta. “CarbonCapture, Inc. has demonstrated both an astute understanding of the opportunity and how Alberta is the ideal place to foster their growth in years to come.”

Tamarack’s modular design enables rapid deployment and iteration, creating a pathway to scale from kiloton to megaton capacity. The technology also utilizes an energy-efficient capture process powered entirely by solar energy. The system is being hosted at Deep Sky’s Alpha facility in Innisfail, Alberta, where Deep Sky provides all utilities, renewable power, operations, and CO2 transport and sequestration. To ensure the highest credit quality, True North Carbon is partnering with Isometric, the world’s leading carbon removal registry, to oversee Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and ensure that every credit represents a tonne of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere.

“Deep Sky is pleased to welcome CarbonCapture Inc. to our Alpha facility,” said Alex Petre, Deep Sky CEO. “Having end to end infrastructure for DAC commercialization right here in Alberta demonstrates that Canada already leads globally in carbon removal – and there’s potential to scale this industry nationally.”

In partnership with Deep Sky, the Tamarack project will establish a home-market supply of permanent, verifiable carbon dioxide removal credits, which Canadian companies can purchase to meet credible net-zero commitments. It also supports the Province’s TIER Regulation and represents a crucial first step in integrating large-scale DAC with Canada’s established CCUS infrastructure, a vital additional component of major decarbonization efforts like the Pathways Project.

The project is also set to deliver significant local benefits, including:

  • Supplier Opportunities: Enabling Canadian-based firms like the steel industry to enter the growing carbon removal value chain.

  • Education and Community Engagement: Establishing a foundation of transparency and long-term partnership with local and Indigenous communities, including educational opportunities for local schools to learn about climate solutions.

An official commissioning ceremony for Project Tamarack is scheduled for late October, with federal, provincial, and local representatives expected to attend to mark the "First Capture" milestone.
